The Pub
This is a renovated pub on the top of a hill at Headley. The pub does a proper sit down lunch but also
sandwiches and light snacks such as fish and chips. Dogs are allowed but must be kept on a leash. The
place seems well geared up for dog-walkers.
Menus are available on the pub’s website (www.cockinnheadley.co.uk). I have said that I expect
around 12, but we can change that nearer the time, and indeed, on the day.
Parking
Parking is available at the Cock Inn. Tuesday is quiet for them, so there should be plenty of space.
The Walk
This is a moderate, rather than easy, walk with some climbs but no stiles or steps, and is just over 3.5
miles in length. The going is easy, with perhaps a few muddy patches to start with, depending on the
weather, but thereafter is on all-weather paths. Some of the ground is uneven, so strong shoes or boots
are necessary, and a walking stick would come in useful. The walk takes us through fields behind
Headley Cricket Club, and then across the National Trust car park and on to the Heath. The walk
around the heath is a mixture of fields and open heath and is quite hilly. There are some pleasant views across the heath.
Directions
From the A243 the Cock Inn is on the brow of a hill just to the south of Headley (i.e. past the former
RAF hospital). The car park is just over the brow of the hill.
