Location
Meet at the rear of Drummond Arms. Albury, GU5 9AG at 10.45 for 11.00 start
Directions
Drive over Newlands Corner towards Shere. At the bottom of the hill turn right
opposite the Silent Pool and follow that road into Albury Village. The Drummond Arms
is on the right with a turning to its large car park just before it.
There is a bridge over the Tillingbourne to the car park which is passable by all but the largest SUV’s.
The Walk
Due to the possibility of a very hot day, a part woodland walk with views is planned lasting no more that one and a half hours. There are no stiles and the sandy terrain will not be a challenge for regular walkers with good balance.
As Albury village is at the foot of a valley, the first part is a moderate uphill stretch into the Hurtwood. From there it is either flat or downhill for much of the rest except another moderate uphill section on the return leg. Thereafter it is easy downhill walking.
The views are panoramic out of the woods which are attractive in themselves.
Food and Drink
The Drummond Arms was refurbished this year into a hotel and unlike other Inns in the area offers a full lunch menu on Tuesdays of good quality. It has attracted our non-walkers to join for lunch in the past and hopefully it will again this year. There is substantial seating both in and out of doors too.
The management have asked for an indication of the numbers intending to lunch.
