In April 1991” The Probus Club of Cobham”, which had been formed less than a year earlier, had become oversubscribed and held a waiting list of 39. The founder members of “The Fairmile Probus Club” were drawn from those on the list. They were invited to attend a meeting in the Old Bear Hotel, Cobham on 21st May 1991. The meeting was chaired by the late Mr. Colin Worsfold of Esher Rotary Club also addressed by Mr. Vic Burr, then Chairman of The Probus Club of Cobham. It was agreed that an interim committee should be set up consisting of: Chairman Reg Dodgson, Secretary Geoff Hughes, Treasurer Terry Hanney and Members Alan Foster and Cyril Swain. Membership of the Committee would be confirmed (or otherwise) at the first Annual General Meeting of the yet unnamed club. In the meantime, the newly formed club would meet on the third Tuesday of each month at The Old Bear. At these meetings the name “Fairmile Probus Club” was adopted and it was agreed that the date of the first AGM would be the third Tuesday of September 1991. Also agreed and adopted were the proposed rules of the Club, one of which, Rule 4, limited the term of office of the Chairman to two years. In the case of Reg Dodgson, this would run from the first AGM until September 1993.

The venue for meetings changed from The Old Bear to The Fairmile from October 2008 and again in 2011 to The Drift Golf Club, East Horsley.
